Dave minion cake...

An order from Shaun for his wife who loves minions. Despicable me minions is really a hot favourite and is currently no.1 in my popular list. LOL. His order is simple and he wants something similar to the previous 2D minion cake that I have done before.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/08/minion-2d-cake.html

He requested the cake to look like Dave (the one with the centre parting) as it is his wife's favourite minion. When I asked him if he required any wordings to be placed on the cake, he requested minion language "para tu ti amo" to be placed (I think it is something along the lines of "I love you"). This couple are really very into the movie and are truly minion fans. LOL.

A small 5" cake for the couple.
Hope they like the cake!

Rainbow rose cupcakes...

This is an order from Bi Ru who wanted to order 8 rainbow coloured rose cupcakes. She wanted 6 coloured roses - red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. This roses have to be done by buttercream icing using piping tools and this is something that I have not mastered well (have been using fondant and gum paste for most of my decorations). I think I have also mentioned before that I do not prefer working with buttercream icing as it is very messy. But this time round I took up the challenge thinking that it should be quite easy to come up with the roses.

But I was wrong, I took a while to find the right tip and technique to swirl the icing and make it look like a rose. I practiced on the practice board numerous times till I found the "right rose". Then the next harder part comes in when I have to mix the colouring into the icing which softens the icing when I added more into it for a darker shade of colour. And when the icing is not of a certain consistency, the rose will not turn out well. Thus, I have to compromise between the shade of colour and the consistency. The hardest part is to pipe the rose on the cupcakes. I actually redo it a lot of times until I'm satisfied with it (not really satisfied, but the best I can do). In the end, these 6 cupcakes really took me quite a while to finish. It looks simple but it is not at all. I must brush up on my piping skills. Hope it did look like a rose to you. LOL.

The final product.
Hope Shi Hui likes the cupcakes! Happy Birthday!

Personalized cupcakes for Oct babies..

This is an order from Gina on behalf of a group of mummies whose babies' birthdays falls in Oct. This Oct group mummies celebrated their babies birthday together last year and are doing the same this year. So she requested to have cupcakes for each of the baby with their names on it and she provided me with the list of boys and girls and I suggested making the human figurines to represent the babies (i'm really getting much better and faster in making human figurines after making quite a few). LOL.

It took me quite a while to chop out the names individually but the end product looks really nice. Hope the babies had fun at their party (their party is at polliwogs, an indoor playground for kids) and likes the cupcakes!

Pig and mouse cake...

This is an order from Karen who wanted a cake for her nephews' birthday where they are just 1 year apart and their zodiac is pig and mouse respectively. So, she wanted this two animals on the cake to represent the two of them.

B & J represents their name Bin and Jie (not Ben and Jerry). LOL. Hope B & J likes the cake and happy birthday!

It's Halloween!

It's the time of the year again! Ok, I'm not really fond of this season and do not usually "celebrate" but it's always this time of the year where there is a lot of haunted houses and trail such as the USS's halloween horrors or the Sentosa's spooktacular which I'm interested to go. Not that I have a strong heart (I do not dare to watch horror movie), but having been through fright night (Uni's orientation camp gimmicks) and went to USS's halloween horrors last year, it was actually quite fun and interesting (due to the fact that I went with someone who got really scared and I had a fun time laughing at her).

Enough of all these halloween talk and back to business. This time Jeremy wanted to order a halloween themed cake for the Oct babies. Previously he ordered a weird themed cake for the Aug babies.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/08/monkeys-and-crocodile-cake.html

But being a birthday cake, I did not want to make it too spooky or place any tombs on it as it may not be very auspicious. And then he suggested placing some "cockroaches" inside the cake so that his friend will get a shock while eating the cake. It was a very good idea but I did not implement it in the end as I could not think of how to do it (did not want to place plastic cockroaches inside the cake for food safety reasons).

So in the end I came up with a pumpkin and made some "worms" wriggling out of the pumpkin and some ghosts on top of the pumpkin.

Hope Jeremy and his friends like the Halloween themed cake!

Another beer cake...

An order from Cherie who wanted a beer themed cake. She wanted a cake with a tiger beer logo on it at first but as I'm unable to draw out the logo (not that skillful yet), I suggested printing the logo on icing image. However, as she needs it within a week's time and it takes time for the icing image to be printed, I suggested making a beer cake like the one I did previously.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/07/for-beer-lovers.html

So I made the beer cake again and this time round, with the experience of the previous cake, I used toothpick to insert the handle into the cake to ensure it stays and will not fall off.

Complimentary beer cupcakes to go with the cake.
And I have to mention that I have bought these smaller letter imprints and it works really well and the font is really nice. It is good for smaller cakes where previously I find it hard to squeeze all the letters in as my font size is too big.

I delivered this cake and they were having a poolside bbq party and I think the cake goes really well with the party. Beer, bbq, pool. LOL. Hope they had fun and likes the cake!

Mixture of somebody's favourites - Minions, soccer, x-box controller & konoha symbol

Soffie ordered 16 cupcakes with different theme based on someone's favourites. And his favourites are Minions, soccer, x-box controller and konoha symbol (from naruto). The first 3 are easy but I've never read naruto and have not heard of the konoha symbol, so google once again does the trick. LOL.

So I made 4 cupcakes for each theme and this set of cupcakes is really neat and tidy and I especially love the x-box controller. For the soccer, I previously made 3D ones before but it was not really nice so I made a 2D one instead for this.

Thanks Soffie for ordering these set of cupcakes and I hope the person who receives it likes it!

Oct birthday celebration for colleagues...

This is a very last min order whereby my colleague from another team, Jace, wanted to order a cake for the team's Oct babies. There are 5 birthday boys and girls this month in her team. However, her order came just a day before at night and she needed it the next day. So, I suggested making cupcakes with human figurines on it representing the 5 birthday boys and girls. So, I quickly started on making the figurines.

However, I made a mistake in the gender of the birthday boys and girls. Apparently, her order was for 4 guys and 1 girl but somehow I saw it as 4 girls and 1 guy. And also due to the fact that her team has more girls, I took it as it is that there should be more birthday girls than boys.

So the next day when I brought it to the office then I realised my mistake. Luckily their celebration is in the evening and therefore, I went home during lunch and make some minor changes to change the "gender" of the figurines.

Can you spot the changes?
Luckily the celebration went well. Check out the Oct birthday boys and girls below.

Happy Birthday!

Carebear cupcakes for Min Min Jie Jie...

My cousin, Min Min Jie Jie, loves carebear and previously when I made the carebear cake, she had asked me on where I got the toppers. See the carebear cake below if you have not.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/08/carebear-cake.html

But the toppers were actually provided by the customer so I didn't know where to get them. Just recently, I've got an order for another carebear cake and this time round I have to source for the carebear toppers. So, I managed to find a seller on ebay selling the toppers and I bought 2 sets of it. Since my cousin's birthday is coming soon, I decided to make some carebear cupcakes instead of just giving her the carebear itself.

Happy birthday Min Min Jie Jie!

Pokemon cupcakes...

This is a set of complimentary cupcakes for Mrs Tay, who have previously ordered a basketball cake. See below if you have not seen the cake.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/09/basketball-cake.html

I prepared this set of cupcakes for her as she had wanted to order another 2 cakes (1 pocoyo, 1 pokemon) from me for two birthday boys but I was not able to make it due to personal stuffs. I felt bad that I was not able to make the cake for the boys and that they had to make do with a normal cake from outside without their favourite characters on. And it happened that I managed to find a set of pokemon cupcakes topper selling online and therefore, I decided to make some cupcakes for the boys as a gift and give it to them before their actual birthday celebration.

The toppers are very small but they looked just nice on the cupcakes.
Seriously, I have no idea what are the characters in pokemon (only one I know is Pikachu but it is not in the set). But I do hope the birthday boy will be happy when he receive it!

Crayon Shin Chan (蜡笔小新) cupcakes...

This is a very cute order where I guess all of you should be familiar with since childhood and that is Crayon Shin Chan, better known as 蜡笔小新! For your information, when Michelle first told me she wanted Crayon Shin Chan cupcakes I had no idea who it was! After searching google then I realised that it was 蜡笔小新. Pardon my ignorance. LOL. Anyways, this is quite an easy and neat set and it came out quite cute as well. Here it goes.

Thanks Michelle for ordering these cupcakes and Happy Birthday Yeting!
